- Survey site for obstructions, and make sure trap net will sit properly in water.
- Start depth should be 0 to 0.3 m, and depth at gap (where leader begins to funnel to crib) requires 2 to 2.5 m.
- With net perpendicular to shore, and having the wooden brail of the trap net set “wood to shore” slowly reverse boat while maintaining course. Setting "wood to shore" will preven the net from being set upside down, and ensures that it will lay flat and will not collapse.
- Make sure leader is set straight and untangled, and then throw out each wing.
- Continue to reverse until all of the trap net is out. When at end of the trap net, the brails will enter the water.
- When ready, let king anchor out, making sure it is pulled tightly so the house is stretched tight and the net is not collapsed.
- Finally make your way to the wings, set untangled at 45 degrees to shore, and then set anchor.
- Make sure the trap net zippers are close so fish do not escape.
