Native Peoples Student Travel Award
The American Fisheries Society (AFS) is currently seeking applications to support outstanding Native undergraduate students to attend the 2010 annual meeting of AFS in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, September 12-16. This travel award is designed to encourage increased participation of Native Peoples in AFS and help defray meeting related expenses. Travel grants of $2000 each will be awarded on a competitive basis to assist two students with expenses incurred when attending the annual meeting.
Selection of the awardees will be based on academic qualifications and rationale for attending the meeting. Each recipient will be paired with an experienced mentor and expected to participate in the student mentor program at the annual meeting. This is a program designed to orient highly motivated undergraduate students interested in fisheries professions and working with AFS to enhance professionalism in natural resources and develop leadership skills both within the organization and in their respective careers. These scholarships provide a unique and wonderful opportunity for undergraduate students to network with the AFS leaders.
Completed applications must be received (electronic submissions preferred) no later than April 1, 2010. Application materials can be found on the EOS website (http://www.fisheries.org/units/eos/).
